For most of us, it comes as no surprise that video is very popular in social media circles. We watch it on Facebook. We watch it on Twitter. We watch it on Instagram.
And we watch it on the king of online video, YouTube.
Most websites these days include some form of video, and there are some really good reasons for that.
The obvious reasons centre around peoples’ desire to see things for themselves. To watch and learn. To engage and be entertained. To watch and listen.
But there are other reasons too.
When a customer searches Google for your product or service, where would you like your website to appear? At the top or the bottom of the search?
You want, and in many cases need, to be at the top.
So, how does Google decide which one to put at the top? And how does it decide which one to put tenth? Or worse, on the second page of Google, where no one is ever going to see them!
Well, Google has developed a series of algorithms to help them decide which site to put where. These algorithms are mathematical formulas that basically look at how much activity the website experiences. How often things like blogs are updated. How many comments are made, positive and negative, from customers about that business. And of course, how much video a website publishes.
As an example, let’s say we have two plumbers in Warrnambool, both wanting to be on top of the Google search – both want to be the first to be found when a customer searches for their services.
The algorithms enable Google to figure out which of the two plumbers is more active online. More expert in their field. Easy to work with and provides better service.
This information, amongst a number of other factors, is how Google decides which plumber’s site to place on top of the list.
So, video plays an important role in enabling customers to find your business first!
